The bottom is fitted and screwed and glued to the bottom edge of the case, the lower frames, and the lower belly rail. From the lower belly rail back, the grain runs the length of the instrument. In front of the rail it runs across the instrument. The two bottom pieces are joined at the belly rail with a half-lap joint.
